Request Services

The NNL Service Request Process is distinct from other departmental or University-required approvals.

To begin a request for services, please submit a consultation request at least 16 weeks prior to the grant submission deadline by submitting one of the following forms:

  1. MIDB Request for Service form on the MIDB website (Pediatric research)
  2. NNL Pre-Award Study Notification form (Adult research)

Service Models

The Non-invasive Neuromodulation Laboratories (NNL) offer a Free NNL Service Model for projects which do not include NNL staff effort in their grant proposals, and a Supported NNL Service Model for projects which do include staff effort. The quantity of NNL staff effort included in the project award will impact the amount of services and support provided for each individual study.

Flowchart of Service Request Process

A flow chart of the NNL Service Request process, from consultation request to the start of data collection.
NNL consultation requests should be submitted by the investigator at least 16 weeks prior to the grant submission deadline. The Principal Investigator (PI) must be a faculty member at the University of Minnesota. An initial technical meeting with the NNL will determine which support model is appropriate for the project. The NNL will draft a study-specific statement of work (SOW) that includes NNL staff effort statements (if applicable), and the PI will be prompted to sign via email. Then, the PI submits the grant application, and the request is pending until a funding decision is made. Funded studies may apply for UMN IRB approval. Once the IRB approval correspondence is received, the PI may complete the CTR Portal Service Request form to officially request NNL services. The NNL manager receives the request and submits a technical evaluation to the NNL Steering Committee. Following NNL Steering Committee Approval, the study team is granted access to the facilities and scheduling calendar, and technical training and a laboratory safety orientation are provided.
